SHE'S ALIIIIVE

Whoa! Sorry about the hiatus. I'll keep this short and sweet. I've been real busy for the past five months because I'm going back to school. Due in part to the extremely generous scholarship offer they gave me I will be attending the School of Visual Arts this coming fall. Sadly, I will not be attending Art Center like I originally planned. I am, however, I am very excited to be taking classes from Sam Weber and Yuko Shimizu in just two short months.  This application process and plans for moving have taken up a lot of my time seeing as I am a full grown adult with a life and a boyfriend and two bunnies to move straight across the width of America from Seattle to New York. WOOF. In addition, I am a full time server at a popular restaurant. At the end of the day, after working and paperwork and faxing things and calling every secretary at SVA, I've just been too goddamned tired to draw! I managed to squeeze in a few personal projects and figure drawing sessions here and there.

Until I have more to share, here's a vampiro mujer to keep you company.

Nerd alert

This is an illustration of a Neil Gaiman short story from his book "Smoke and Mirrors." It's about a couple who receive a mystery wedding present that is essentially a piece of typed paper that describes their wedding. As the years go by it changes every time they look at it to instead describe their marriage, but the alternate universe awful version of their marriage where they hate each other and are alcoholics.

I was going to be a creeper fan girl when Neil Gaiman and his wife Amanda Palmer came through Seattle on tour by giving them a print but I was flat broke at the time. Opportunity missed! Ah well. Maybe I'll make a print and mail it to them.

I would like to take this opportunity to show you guys my super fancy lightbox. I pay 622.50 a month for it, soo...I'm kind of a big deal. Unfortunately because I live in Seattle it only works between the months of June and October, but, hey, only the BEST for my art.

Try to contain your jealousy, please.

ART DUMP

Okay, first and foremost happy belated holidays. These were my Christmas cards this year. I decided to go multicultural! Ole! For those of you out of the Hawaiian loop, the gentleman in the robe, the broom hat and the Christmas tree spear is King Kamehameha. Mele Kalikimaka! My personal favorite is my suave Frenchman. He's kiiind of too cool for Christmas, but he'll stoop to painting you an impressionistic tree. If you're really lucky he'll make you some found Christmas art. C'est ne pas une tree.

The rest of this is all sketchbooks and nudes, dudes.

BLOOD BUDDIES

This was some logo artwork I did for the band Blood Buddies, two rockin' ladies out of Los Angeles. I had to buy a third set of nibs for my quill pen for this because I took such terrible care of my last sets. I WILL NEVER LEARN.

HUNGER GAMES

So sometimes I like to pretend that I am a mature adult and thus I do not have time for such things like young adult novels. This, of course, is totally a lie. I fucking love young adult novels! And when my sister let me borrow her Hunger Games trilogy it pretty much consumed my life for a full weekend.

They are making a movie of the Hunger Games, to be released in 2012, and I have pretty mixed feelings about the girl they chose to play Katniss. So before the movie came out I wanted to be sure and draw this because even if I hate the movie I know that it will nevertheless affect my Katniss, the one in my head. So here she is, preserved forever.

WELL THIS IS EMBARASSING...

Whoa girl! Where did all that time go?
I have a bunch of stuff to share once I get around to scanning it. Which, ideally, will be any day now seeing as I quit my job of 4 years. Fear not, I have another job lined up but it wont start for several weeks. Listen, everybody, I know I'm still in the honeymoon phase but so far I really mean it when I say, JOBLESSNESS IS AWESOME. I am getting so. much. shit done! Shazam! It's amazing how much energy you have when you aren't having your soul sucked away by the general public on a daily basis.

In the mean time, here's the final artwork for that Flying Coffin shirt I promised you like eighteen months ago. The shirt is available in three different colors and two long sleeve styles. Snatch it up from the online store!
