EMERALD ISLE

I didn't have as much time as I wanted to draw, but luckily that wasn't because I was being lazy and uninspired. We were just endlessly doing something the entire time. But I'm happy with what I got when I got it.

I also had the great great pleasure of meeting in Dublin with Mick O'dea. We met up with him at his studio in Mountjoy Square where he was so gracious and generous with his time. He took out all of his portfolios and let me rifle through everything, and then took us out to dinner! A-mazing!

PUMPED!!!!!!!

I'm back to figure painting and drawing. I'm trying to begin and finish some actual original work, one of these days. But until then, I'll be keeping it real with the nudes!

The trip was fun, but I'm glad to be back to my little poop eaters.

UNDIES

Trying to be more brave with color. Scans of my sketches in Ireland to come!

Wednesday, September 8, 2010

Here's my first drop-in 6 hour studio painting sans teacher after my figure painting class. It's okay? It has a lot of problems. But I'm trying out not being afraid of making a bad painting, and it's working pretty well.

I'm leaving for Ireland tomorrow morning and returning on the 19th. I'm excited to draw lots of old people! And I packed all my green markers!

And one for the road, a digital two hour speed painting.

BYE NOW.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Oooooooooooooooooo-eee! I've been busy.

Lately I've been taking a very tiny moleskin on the bus with me and doing some quick quick little sketches of my fellow travelers. It's also great to have around for little 2 minute drawings when I'm waiting for someone at a restaurant, bored at work, at the beach, etc. Some of them have shoddy line quality because of the bumpy bus but if I captured the person's likeness I was satisfied.

I have another painting to share in the next few days and then I'm going to Ireland for 10 days. Wa wa wee wa.

HAIR

Ink, watercolor, Adobe Photoshop

I am learning so many awesome things, like the many amazing talents of frisket paper and how to use masks in photoshop. Shit is blowing my miiind!

I'm pretty doubtful that the best way learn watercolor, oil, figure drawing, photoshop, inking and charcoal techniques is to do everything at once all the time, but that seems to be my general mode of attack. I know that style is everything and it's all about technique secrets, but I've never really been able to choose just one direction. Somehow my subconscious is convinced if I try everything I will be able to finally make up my mind but as of yet I'm on the fence.

In the mean time here's an old super quick photoshop landscape study, done in under an hour.

From this I learned, use the biggest brush available for the task at hand. Also, vary your strokes!!
